Explore 1770: Fun for Everyone

By Racheal Hundt

Just under three hours from Hervey Bay and 20 minutes from Agnes Waters, you’ll find the seaside town of Seventeen Seventy (1770).

The Captain Cook Holiday Village is perfect for morning walks along the 4WD track down to the tranquil and remote beachfront. The ocean spray is a refreshing start to the day with rolling sand dunes covered by purple ‘Beach Morning Glory’ flowers. This accommodation hotspot is the gateway to local bike tracks and features a refreshing swimming pool to cool off with the kids at the end of each day. It is also a short stroll to the Discovery Coast Rotary Markets, the Marina dining area and other local attractions.

Don’t waste a moment on your trip to 1770, firstly driving past the entire town to the most eastern point, where you’ll find walking tracks to the views of Bustard Bay lookout. Be sure to venture down the Joseph Banks Conservation Park past the Captain Cook monument, where you can spend a whole day along the walking paths and sparkling beachfront foreshore. Be sure to spend part of your morning on the beach with a Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP) following the playfulness of dolphins in the crystal-clear waters.

Once you arrive at the Marina, jump on a LARC Tour, which is an ex-military Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo (LARC) vessel that takes you on a guided adventure across the land and through water. You’ll travel across the channel of the marina, over sandbars and through the mouth of Eurimbula Creek to a beachfront picnic under the shade of trees. On return, settle under the fairy lights at the Marina’s grass front dining area to watch a colourful sunset with BYO refreshments and a delicious dinner.
